The "International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Project" is currently one of the world's largest and most far-reaching international scientific research cooperation projects. It will take about 10 years to build and cost 5 billion US dollars (1998). The ITER device is a superconducting Tockmark that produces a large-scale nuclear fusion reaction. In January 2003, the State Council approved China to participate in the ITER plan negotiations. After three years of negotiations, on May 24, 2006, with the approval of the State Council, the China ITER negotiating team represented the Chinese government together with the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the United States. The ITER plan agreement was drafted. The seven parties include the world’s major nuclear countries and major Asian countries, and cover nearly half of the world’s population. China's participation in the ITER program is based on the basic needs of energy in the long term.
China currently undertakes product development tasks for 12 major categories including magnet support systems, cladding shielding modules, gas injection systems, and glow discharge cleaning systems. The cladding shielding module manufactured by Dongfang Heavy Machinery belongs to the core neutron shielding and heat exchanger part in various specific products of the ITER system.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of China’s participation in the ITER project. Dongfang Electric has successfully entered a new field of nuclear energy utilization, using China’s wisdom to attract the attention of the industry, and helping China become the world’s leader in nuclear fusion technology.
